A chalk cloud.

This weekend we went to the festival of colors. Basically everyone stands on a hill, counts down and throws colored chalk all over each other… it’s a good time.

If you are thinking about going to the festival of colors. Let me warn you, your hair will be pink for a week, you will probablly have stained teeth for a while, and your clothes will never be the same. But you will probablly never forget struggling to breathe in a cloud of colored chalk.

If you get confused, you can click on  this link for a better idea of what the festival of colors is.

We tried to take a before picture, but strangers got us dirty before we could get one.
My lovely husband got a handful of chalk in my eyes. This picture was after 5 minutes of thinking I'm blind. I think that's why I look so happy, because I can finally see! lol
5 minutes after I was 'blind' I accidentally blinded the girl on the left with all that pink chalk right in her eye. I felt terrible!

Love is in the air.

Something exciting happened last Saturday.

It all started with some news that Jordan (Jake’s sister) was getting proposed to on Saturday. Her best friend Tessa, Jake, and I went on a little adventure to scope out an outdoor location for her boyfriend to pop the question. We drove around to some parks and some other iffy places. I was getting really nervous about finding the perfect location because it was a yucky day and everything was looking---blah. That is until we saw a beautiful gazebo on a hill. We knew it would be a perfect spot, but it was in the backyard of a gated mansion. Jake, who never ceases to surprise me with his bravery said he would go to the house and ask if we could use it. Lucky for us—they said yes.

Later that night a group of us showed up to this amazing mansion with a beautiful view. We decorated the gazebo with rose petals and candles and made it look pretty. While we were waiting, the friendly man who let us use his gazebo came out to talk to us. He offered to give us a tour of his amazing house. Immediately after walking into the house, we saw a wall of magazine covers all with his face on the front. I freaked out. We soon realized that this nice man was Steven R. Covey—author of 7 highly effective habits series, Franklin Covey, and lots of other business things ?.. Anyways he gave us a tour (including pictures of him and many famous people) and shared tons of cool stories. All that excitement was all most too much for me to handle.

Then Brady and Jordan came and had the most adorable engagement with a beautiful view (although I think they were a little too overwhelmed to notice the view lol). We are seriously so so so excited for them! I just need to keep reminding myself that Jordan is getting married, not me, therefore I do not have a legitimate excuse to lose sleep over excitement & waste all my time looking at wedding blogs.

Hello, meet my inner crazy.

Sometimes (well.. frequently) I let my inner crazy out. Today was one of those days. Mid-day I decided to try out a new recipe

1 cup mayo

½ cup olive oil

3 egg yokes

Yummy. . . right?

Well this is what I did with it.
Completely disgusting, nasty, smelly, seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time-but-wasn’t.
.
Ew. Ew. Ew. . . So Utah winters are dry and harsh on my poor frizzy hair. My inner crazy told me this was a good idea, but let me tell you it was wrong. So don’t try this at home (not like anyone was tempted, right?).
.
Then there was some not-so-crazy fun, but fun nonetheless.

THEN, my inner-crazy decided that Jake driving me up and down University Ave wearing this mask be a great end to a Friday night. There’s something I love about making complete strangers hysterically laugh while driving down the road. It's really a good time, I recommend it. Unless of course you are stuck being the driver of the crazy girl with an old man mask on, that’s probably not as much fun.

Fresh Food & Some Plans

If you saw our cave post, you know we had a gift card to use. Well it didn’t take us long..

We headed to La Jolla Groves, a new restaurant nearby. It uses local, organic ingredients & everything was just delicious. I think I’ve found a new Provo favorite!

Whenever we go somewhere with the camera, we like testing it out and taking pictures, that being said, we both hate being the model (if you can't tell from our faces lol).

So cute, the inside of the restaurant looks like a lemon grove

We managed to take a picture of our appetizer, but when the meals came out, we just dug right in! On Saturday night we picked up some delicious desserts (orange crème brulee, lemon roll, and lemon cake) from La Jolla Groves and had a “Lie to me” marathon from Netflix. Relaxing nights like that is one of the reasons I love being married.

In other news… we have some seriously EXCITING summer plans. I will have a giant carbon foot print from all the traveling, but it will be worth it. I can’t say exactly where we are going, because part of our plans involve a surprise visit to somewhere special, but I’ll fill you in later. Seattle (for my family), Virginia (to see B&K, lily, and the new baby), Atlanta (to see J’s fam).. and that’s just the start---I. CANNOT. WAIT.

Also, I’ve told you about my chocolate problem (it makes me seriously grumpy and my poor husband begs me not to eat it). Part of the plan this summer includes some time away from Jake :(. I will miss him dearly, but I am going on a serious chocolate binge while he is gone! I’m already planning it out. First on my list, chocolate molten cake with hazelnut whip cream-- from roosters. Oh ya.

The Cave

So I’ve mentioned before, but Jake and I like to refer to our little one bedroom apartment as the cave. In the winter time it can feel dark and small, but with spring it’s been so bright and cheery so maybe a new name is in order…
A couple weekends ago our apartment complex had a little competition called “parade of homes.” Basically, people in the community came around with little score cards to rate each apartment on a scale of 1-5 (from “like” to “like a lot” lol).. soo awkward! Anyways, so we had about 50 strangers walk through our apartment judging our “style.” At first it was uncomfortable but it ended up being kind of fun.

The apartment manager delievered a prize while I was in class. She said to Jake, "Congrats you guys won 1st prize." Jake was so excited and started calling and texting people. Then he opended up the envelope and saw that "1st prize" actually means 2nd place because "grand prize" is the winner. LOL. So he was a little disapointed after thinking we won, but I was actually SHOCKED we even got 2nd because there were a lot of cute apartments! And we got a $50 gift card to a yummy restaurant and a $25 gift card to a movie theatre, not too shabby for a little spring cleaning.

In case you don’t already know this about me, I like to make things. I guess you could call it ‘craft’ but that makes me sound like an old lady, so I’ll just keep it as “make things.” So here’s a little tour of our cave and a few things I’ve made.

Our little eating area:
Clock above the kitchen sink (before):
Added a little spray paint for some color in the kitchen:
Jar's in the kitchen (the sweets jar doesnt stay full very long)
Embellished a letter B with some shells:
Shelf above our toliet:
Some little jars I decorated for the bathroom:
Oh my our bedroom needs some help still.. Notice one side is higher than the other--I sleep with extra padding :)
I found some unfinished cupboard fronts at a thrift store.. I painted, sanded, and distressed them and added  little shells. Not quite sure what I think of cupboards hanging on our wall, but it was cheap "art"
After a few hot glue gun burns, I embellished some frames that hold pictures we took
I love this picture jake took, this flower was actually teeny-tiny, he's a pro.
Jake's "man corner." It has some sweet things from Africa & pottery he made in a class
I refinished a plain white lamp with some burlap to add some "texture"

I found this black lamp for $6, but it didn't match our place very well so I added some spray paint.. It still needs a new shade, like asap.

My "girl corner"

Wheff. If you made it through all those pictures--- I am proud of you!
